If you're wondering if seating assignments are absolutely necessary for your wedding, then the answer is yes (you can find out why
here). Unless the affair will be an extremely small and intimate one, most of your guests will probably look for place cards or seating instructions, especially those who came alone and don't know anyone else at the event.
Luckily, there are tons of ways to seat your guests! Consider traditional
place card holders (there's literally one for every theme!) or perhaps a more elegant place card frame is more your style. If you're on a budget,
table place cards or
escort cards are completely acceptable and won't break the bank, though they're much more simple. Finally, seating scrolls are a neat and polished way to seat your guests without the clutter of place cards on a table, however they can be costly.
The big questions many brides have is this: "if I choose to use a place card holder or frame, can that double as my wedding favor too?" Although holders and frames can later be used to hold a picture, often it's appropriate to give a more practical favor in addition to the
wedding place card. Guests are not likely to have the same "double duty" theory in mind as you and may feel ripped off for a favor.
So what's the solution? Don't splurge on the seating assignments - check out our
cheap place card holders and
place card frames under $1. Alternatively, let your creative side take over and come up with your own DIY
wedding seating chart: instead of breaking the bank and buying a seating scroll, take up calligraphy and make your own! Another great idea is to purchase a large chalkboard and simply write your guests' names and their table numbers - you'll save a lot of money on paper and ink, and can re-use the chalkboard!
If you're absolutely certain you want your seating assignment to double as your wedding favor, consider something a little more unique than the traditional holder or frame that will later hold a photo. Chalkboard frames are a popular choice today, especially with rustic themes trending at the moment. Or check out our
