How to Choose Your Wedding Jewelry

Every bride dreams of how she will look on her wedding day Ė from her head to her pedicured toes! What you choose to wear on your wedding day should express your personal style. Weather you choose a gown adorned with sparkling crystals, or a simple gown with minimal detail, your wedding look should reflect who you are. So now that you have that beautiful wedding gown, itís time to accessorize it! Your bridal jewelry should showcase your personal style, while complimenting your overall wedding look. Here are few Doís and Doníts for choosing your wedding day jewelry:

Do choose your dress, veil, and headpiece first- Think about the color of your wedding dress. If you chose a white dress, you should compliment it with silver or white gold jewelry as yellow gold may clash a bit with the brightness of the white. An ivory dress gives you freedom to accessorize as silver and gold will go well with this color. Is your veil or headpiece very ornate? If so, you may want to choose more understated jewelry such as a pair of crystal stud earrings with a pendant necklace.

Donít over-accessorize- If your dress has very ornate detail, you donít want to take the attention away from it, you want to showcase it! You should stay away from any bold necklaces that may be a distraction. Also, if you are wearing a dress with an asymmetrical neckline, donít wear a necklace. Instead, choose a pair of stunning drop earrings with a simple and elegant bracelet. Or, if youíre wearing a gorgeous vintage hair pin, I would stick with a simple pair of stud earrings.

Do stay within your budget- With so many alternatives for expensive diamonds, you wonít have a problem finding wedding jewelry that wonít break the bank! For example, Swarovski crystal jewelry is a great substitute for diamonds. Most people wonít even be able to tell the difference! These crystals will sparkle just like real diamonds. We all know how expensive gold is these days, so why not try sterling silver or rhodium-plated jewelry? These precious metals will shine just as much as gold or platinum (in fact, rhodium is in the platinum family), and will compliment your look just the same!

Donít be afraid to mix and match- Mixing borrowed and new jewelry is a great way to honor the old tradition, ďSomething old, something new, something borrowed, something blueĒ. Pair a new necklace with a family heirloom Ė like the earrings that your grandmother wore on her wedding day. You can add something blue with a sapphire bracelet that you borrowed from your Mother.

Do think about the time of day your wedding will take place- Are you having a morning ceremony or a brunch reception? If so, you should keep your jewelry understated and elegant. If you are having an evening ceremony/reception, you could be a little more adventurous with your wedding jewelry. Try wearing a bold, statement necklace or maybe some jewelry with a pop of color - emerald and sapphire colors are perfect for nighttime!

Donít forget to do your research- Before purchasing your wedding jewelry, you should research the storeís return policy. Just in case you have a last minute change of heart, you need to know if you are able to return or exchange the items you have purchased. Also, make sure you give yourself enough time to purchase your jewelry. If the store is having something custom made, or is making an alteration to your wedding jewelry, they will need more time to accommodate your order.
