Article: Do It Yourself Favors
Perhaps your on a budget, and you would like to give wedding favors, but raher not spend a small fortune. Or perhpas, all of the standard wedding favors out there are not quite your style; you want something unique that your guests have never received. Maybe you are a crafty person and rather create your wedding favors by hand - you feel personal touches are important! Whatever your reason for exploring the do it yourself wedding favor category, you're sure to find something within your budget, unique and craft inspired.
The frist step in creating do it yourself (DIY) wedding favors is finding the right packaging. It could be as simple as a roll of tulle / tulle circles, to organza bags, or fun shaped boxes. It could be extravagant such as purchasing a patterned silk or designer fabric covered boxes (such boxes can be used at a later date by your guests to hold trinkets). With so many choice out there, it may be hard to decide what type of packaging to use! At this point, you'll also need to decide how many to purchase. Do you want to place one favor at each place setting, or one favor per couple / single guest?
Next, you'll need to decide on a type of filler for your wedding favor package. Candy is a popular choice for the bride on a budget, it's inexpensive and everyone loves a sweet treat. At local gift shops, candy stores or party supply stores, you can find different types of mints, jordan almonds, chocolates, or jelly beans. Not up for candy? You can fill them with a small token of appreciation, such as a bookmark, a keychain, wildflower seeds, a small decorative soap (look in bath stores), homemade cookies, a cookie cutter, a small decorative tealight candle, or even lip balm. You can also make something such as a wedding music cd, fill it with a mini photo album, or perhaps a personalized wedding favor pen.
Once you have decided on both the packaging and the item, there are finishing touches. A simple and cheap wedding favor idea is purchasing a few large rolls of curling ribbon in your wedding colors, and simply tying and curling the ribbon around the package. You could also finish off your favors with a personalized ribbon with your names and date. Small touches such as rings, hearts, roses, flowers, and sprays can also be added for a unique touch - all of which can be purchased in bulk at a local craft supply store.
Whatever your budget, with a bit of imagination and a few hours of your time, you can create a beautiful do it yourself wedding favor that you can be proud to present at your wedding. Your guests will appreciate the time you took to create your favors, and you will get a wonderful feeling of satisfaction that you created a warm thank you to send your guests home with.
