One of the hottest trends pregnant women and mommys and daddys-to-be are taking part in is a gender reveal party
. Gone are the days of paper birth announcements that scream "it's a boy! (or girl)" - today couples are finding more unique ways to announce the sex of their baby. Find unique decorations, supplies and party favors
for your gender reveal party.
Waiting until the delivery room to find out the baby's sex isn't for everyone; then again, it's not so magical to learn the news in an ultrasound room from a complete stranger. What's the most exciting way to do it? Ask your ultrasound tech to seal the fetal shot in an envelope so even you, the parents, don't get to find out the sex until it's revealed at the party with all your friends and family. Give the envelope to a baker or your party host and request the inside of the cake or cupcakes be dyed pink or blue. When it's time for dessert, cut a slice or take a bite to determine what color you'll be painting the nursery. Another fun way to reveal the sex is to fill a pinata with colored confetti or candy, that way all guests can participate. Kids will love if you release colored balloons from a big box, or popping black balloons filled with colored confetti to find out as well. For those parents who absolutely can't wait until the event to find out yourself, write "It's a boy!" or "It's a girl!" on the mommy's big belly and have her lift her shirt to surprise guests - and for some really great photos.
Fun gender reveal party ideas include the "Boy vs. Girl" theme. Ask guests to pick a "team," and to dress in either pink or blue to show their support. You can stick with a pink and blue color scheme for the party with decorations, balloons, iced cupcakes and colored candy. Give guests pink or blue pins to wear too, or get really creative and put fake lips and mustaches on sticks. Other great themes include a "what's it going to bee?" theme complete with bumblebee and honey decorations and favors, "'Whooo' wants to know?" owl theme or a "Waddle it be?" duck theme.
Gender reveal parties are also great baby shower ideas if you're looking to host a shower that's a little out of the ordinary. However, complications can easily arise if the mommy-to-be's registry includes items that are an obvious spoil to the baby's sex. But they are also a great baby shower alternative and perfect for co-ed baby showers!
