The honeymoon is the long awaited after wedding vacation that the couple uses for some newlywed alone time. While most couples look forward to the honeymoon, deciding on the perfect honeymoon spot may not always be easy. It is best to discuss what type of honeymoon both partners are looking forward to before selecting the location and package. Here are some location ideas for you to consider when planning your honeymoon.
Cruises
Cruise vacations are great because almost all expenses are paid in an all inclusive package. Lodging, food, and entertainment are all included in cruise packages. Extra expenses you may incur are shore excursions, cocktails, spa services and souvenirs. Cruises are wonderful for honeymooners because they offer a mix of relaxation and tourism, and if you don’t want to follow the crowd, you can do your own thing. Cruise vacations are also lovely, because you can visit more than one destination without having to carry luggage, switch hotels or travel by plane. Many cruise lines offer honeymoon packages and give special treatment and bonuses to traveling honeymoon couples. Some popular cruise destinations are: Hawaii, Bahamas, Caribbean, Alaska, Greece, Mediterranean Sea and Mexico. Check with both your travel agent and the cruise line before booking, usually one will have a sale, special or package just for honeymoons.
Major Cities
Perhaps you always wanted to see the bright lights of the Big Apple (NY) or maybe you always wanted to kiss by the Eiffel tower. Major cities such as New York, London, Paris, and Rome are great honeymoon locations as they offer many tourist attractions, history, great food and a fabulous nightlife scene. Some hotels in these locations may offer a honeymoon package or honeymoon suite, so it would be best to search deals online and through travel agents. Remember though, this type of honeymoon may be less relaxing because you’ll spend more time exploring the city life.
Tropical Locations
Whether you travel to the Caribbean or the Pacific, tropical locations offer a relaxing, laid back atmosphere with plenty to do if you get bored. Many islands offer water activities such as boating, jet skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Most tropical islands have a rich natural environment in which you can explore though tours such as rainforests, lagoons, and coral reefs. Some island hotels contain casinos and many offer a lush nightlife. Although tropical island locations are very popular among honeymooners because they can relax and unwind after the stressful wedding planning, make sure you check the local weather for the month you will be traveling in. Some locations will be much warmer than others and some may be in the path of hurricanes and other natural events during the time you plan on vacationing there.
Non-Traditional Honeymoons
Perhaps you both have a love for something different. If so, by all means indulge your dreams together. If you both want to go backpacking through Europe, now is your chance. If you would prefer hiking or mountain climbing – go for it! If you both love the snow and cold weather, book a ski trip. If you always wanted to explore the jungle, take a safari. This is your one chance to experience a trip of a lifetime for the first time as a newlywed couple. The first memories of your marriage will be of your wedding and honeymoon, so select a location that you both love.
Some suggested honeymoon destinations are:
Any of the Caribbean Islands , Mexico, South Pacific Islands, Europe, Africa, and the US (Hawaii, Alaska, Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, Poconos, Las Vegas, New York, Orlando).
